<p>The invention facilitates a reduction in the volume of waste material requiring burial. The treatment of the liquid radioactive waste involves the following sequence of steps: concentration of the liquid radioactive waste; crystallization of the concentrate, with additional monitoring of the crystallization process - if section B (where the temperature dependency function ceases to be monotonic) is absent the solution is recycled for further concentration, and if section B is found to be present the solution is accordingly drawn off for the solid phase to be separated from the mother liquor; dissolving the solid phase separated from the mother liquor in distilled water and/or the washing liquor from the anion-exchange filter (8); ultrafiltration of the solution obtained, passing it through an anion-exchange filter (8) until the pH value of the eluate starts to fall, and subsequent washing and regeneration of the anion exchange filter (8) with a regenerating solution of a volatile alkali; passing the regenerate obtained through an ion-selection filter (9) and concentrating it to a level of 80-250 grams per litre (boric acid equivalent); crystallization, separation and subsequent drying of the boric acid.</p> |
