PURPOSE:To provide the high-density optical disk which is formed with pits at a higher density than the density of a CD and can prevent the malfunction of the CD reproducing device even when erroneously mounted on the CD reproducing device by providing interchangeability with a CD reproducing device. CONSTITUTION:The pits of the same size as the size of the pits of the CD are formed within a region of 23 to 25mm radius among the recording regions of the high-density optical disk and lead-in and lead-out information meeting the requirements specified for the CD are recorded as data pit arrays. As a result, the CD reproducing device can make the operation from the start of reproduction to the end of the reproduction based on the normal reproduction operation in the region of 23mm to 25mm region even when the high-density disk is erroneously mounted on the CD reproducing device. Consequently, the various faults which can be generated by the malfunction of the system controller in the CD reproducing device are prevented.
