PURPOSE: To determine the lowest energy of a cardioversion by sensing a non- arrhythmia type heart depolarization (i.e., QRS-group), and applying a shock into the heart when a passive-aggressive period shond occur after a predetermined period elapsed.£: The log energy of the crdioversion, an electrocardiogram, and a T-wave. CONSTITUTION: When the heart is not in the arrhythmia, the electronic activity of the heart 14 is detected by a detector 16 by way of an electrode 12. The detector 16 detects the heart depolarization, i.e., a QRS-group, and a timer circuit 24 is started by the detection. When the timer circuit 24 is once driven by the detector 16, sequentially a pulse generator 22 is started and a shock is impressed into the heart 14 between electrodes 18, 20 after a predetermined time lag elapsed. The time lag of the timer circuit 24 is equivalent to a time difference between the occurrence of the ORS-group and the T-wave of a passive-aggressive period. A heart state detector 26 determines as to whether or not the heart is in the state of a fibrillation by reading a signal from the detector 16. When the heart is not in the state of the fibrillation, the reading is repeated by a selector 28 for the level detector of a pulse energy under a lower energy level until it becomes the state of the fibrillation.
