The flexible axle (3) has a cross member (4) of "U" section whose open side faces the front of the vehicle. The cross member is joined to longitudinal arms (5) which tail from flexible mountings (6) attached to the vehicle by brackets (7) and have at their rear ends flexible mountings (8) attaching the hub carriers (10). The top of each hub carrier is attached to vehicle by the upper link (12) which has flexible bushings (13,14) at each end. The axes of all flexible mountings and bushings are lateral with respect to the vehicle. A damper (15) is attached to the vehicle and the hub carrier by bushings (16,17). The lengths of the arms (5,12) and the distance between the points (8,13) are critical. USE/ADVANTAGE - The movement of the hub carrier is vertical for much of its travel, lateral location of the wheels under cornering forces is good, and longitudinal shocks from the road surface are controlled.
