The chuck (1) clamping member (18) remains axially fixed during workpiece (27) clamping w.r.t. the chuck basic body (4). The workpiece is held by a clamping member (23). The latter is swivelable about any arbitrary transverse axis, passing through the swivel centre (Z) w.r.t. the basic body. It is securable to the workpiece by locking of the first clamping member. Pref. a centring member (42) is insertable onto the chuck with a reproducible, central position in preset axial end position, with a firmly held centring element (46), which can engage a complementary region of the workpiece. ADVANTAGE - Facility for precise machining of a work region eccentric to a workpiece axis.
