A sensor (1, 30) for use in sensing electrostatic charge in the gas path of a gas turbine engine comprises front and rear shields (2, 3) on each side of a sensing element (4). The shields are electrically insulated from the sensing element (4) by way of insulating layers (5, 6) and serve to shield the sensing element from spurious electrostatic charge in the gas path upstream or dowstream of the sensor. The field of view of the sensor (1, 30) is determined by the relative diameters of the shields and the sensing element. |
