The controller is for controlling synchronous motors using digital circuits in order to adjust the control gain according to load variation and to prevent the controller from thermal drift. The controller comprises a speed/position detection circuit (8) for detecting digital speed and position information of the rotor by counting pulse signals generated from a pulse encoder (17), a current detection circuit (13) for detecting phase currents using an A/D converter (19), a CPU (20) for calculating current command using speed error and for generating PWM waveform from current error, a base drive circuit (12) for driving the base of a transitor inverter (15) with PWM waveform.
