Evaluation of plant fertilisation trials by infrared image analysis - is based on photographs taken and processed after allowance of time for growth to be enhanced by soil treatment

The plants under examination are treated with fertiliser and photographed after a period of growth for quantitative analysis of the resulting images, pref. on infrared-sensitive film. Care is taken to ensure uniform exposure without shading and photography from a sufficient distance. The images are processed pref. by the method of Petry and Kuhbauch (1988). Use of a personal computer enables data to be compared from photographs taken over longer periods. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for lawns, inventor aims at inexpensive assessment of fertiliser efficacy within short time. Objective and reproducible results from small colour transparencies.
