POWER CONTROLLER FOR ELECTRIC AUTOMOBILE

PURPOSE:To provide a power controller for electric automobile comprising a plurality of motors in which rotational loss is lowered while enhancing response. CONSTITUTION:Motors M1'-M4' are disposed coaxially on the opposite sides of a reduction gear 16 and a combination of motors to be driven is selected by a vehicle condition detector 10' depending on a required load. Motors thus selected are driven through a controller 12 and an inverter 14. Variable control clutches C1'-C4' are disposed between respective motors and the reduction gear in order to connect such motors as generating driving power with the reduction gear and to discconect other motors therefrom based on a signal delivered from the vehicle condition detector 10'. This constitution prevents useless rotation of other motors thus enhancing response. When the variable control clutch is connected, transmission rate thereof is varied appropriately thus absorbing fluctuation of torque caused by switching of motor.
