Complete knee prosthesis - has tibial component equipped with shank and radial fins, with conical head to receive tibial plate, synthetic insert and condyle component

The prosthesis consists of a tibial shank (1) with a head (3) and plate (5), an insert (7) of a synthetic material and a condyle component (8) for the lower end of the femur.The upper end of the shank has a core with one anterior (11) and two posterior (10) radial fins, and the tibial plate has a projection (12) on its underside and an aperture (4) to receive the shank's conical head (3). It also has two fins (13) to engage with the posterior fins on the shank and a recess to receive a projection (15) on the upper end of the anterior fin (11). The synthetic insert (6) has two thrust surfaces (6) which interact with the condyle component (8), separated by a central projection, and its underside is shaped to engage with the tibial plate, e.g. in the form of tongues and grooves.The tibial and femoral components of the prosthesis can be fixed to the respective bones with a cement. USE/ADVANTAGE - Improved fixing and less risk of bone fissuration.
