The sorter and compactor consists of a housing (1) with four inlets at the top for different materials, e.g. glass, metal, paper and plastic. Each of the inlets is shuttered and is linked to a rotor (7) which breaks up, crushes or shreds the waste material, as appropriate, before tipping it down a chute (16) into a plastic sleeve (21) which is sealed by transverse seams to make bags for the waste material. At the end of the cycle a sealed bag of the waste material, which can be in a different colour for each of the products, is removed through a hinged door (34) at the bottom of the housing. USE/ADVANTAGE - Can be fitted into domestic kitchen to assist recycling of different waste products; may also be used to collect and seal industrial or hospital waste.
