Air turbine dental drill - has air admission and exhaust channels lying on turbine centreline and tapered air admission chamber

The dental instrument is powered by an air-driven turbine (1) at the end of a long arm. Air under pressure to drive the turbine passes through a channel (6) in the arm, which feeds into a tapering ring-channel (4) which goes round approx. three-quarters of the circumference of the turbine chamber. Air for the turbine is admitted through a series of openings (10) in the inner wall of the ring-channel. Air exhausted from the turbine enters a tapering portion (8) which leads into the exhaust channel (9). The air admission and exhaust channels lie on the mid-plane of the turbine.
