The invention concerns a sintered solid-state electrolyte with a high oxygen-ion conductivity made from oxides of quadrivalent metals and from stabilizer oxides. The powders used as the starting materials consist substantially of nanometer-range crystals with a means diameter of <100 nm, preferably from 5 to 40 nm. The invention also concerns a method of producing the electrolyte as well as films or film systems in electrochemical components which consist entirely or partly of the electrolyte proposed.
