The cholesterylic liquid crystal dopant (III) [R=H(CH2)n; n=1-20 is prepd. by (a) dissolving 0.1 mol p-anisic acid and 0.1 mol 4-hydroxy biphenol-4'-carboxylic acid into 30 ml pyridine, and reflux-reacting the mixt. to obtain a cpd. (I), and (b) dissolving 0.08 mol cpd. (I) and 0.08 mol cholesterol (II) into 25 ml pyridine, and reflux-reacting the mixt. for 8 hrs. The dopant (II) has a good miscibility with a liquid crystal material having a biphenyl gp. and an ester gp., and is effective for the prevention of reverse twist.
