PRODUCTION OF ALUMINUM OXIDE-BASED CERAMICS HAVING HIGH STRENGTH AND HIGH TOUGHNESS

PURPOSE:To produce an Al2O3-based ceramic material having high strength and high toughness. CONSTITUTION:An Al2O3-based ceramic material having a theoretical density ratio of >=98% is produced from a sintered compact composed mainly of Al2O3 and having a theoretical density ratio of 50-90% by a high-temperature high- pressure forging of the sintered compact at a forge-starting temperature of 1150-1450 deg.C under the maximum applied pressure of 100-5,000kg/cm<2>.
