A polymer implant material primarily for use as a biodegradable barrier film for the prevention of post-surgical adhesions comprises a substantially continuous polymeric film, which is biodegradable in vivo; has at least one surface which is non-adherent to protein, has a glass transition temperature not greater than 40 DEG C; has drape properties such that at human body temperature it could be wrapped round a one centimetre diameter rod without exhibiting spring back tendency; and has a tear strength such as to allow it to be sutured into position on or around an organ of the human body. The film of the invention is preferably a film polyester polyurethane, of which the polyester portion is preferably an aliphatic polyester, and which one surface at least has been made non-adherent to protein by means of a polysiloxane which is incorporated into the polymer by copolymerization or is mixed into the polymer or is present as a coating on the polymer. |
