The system consists of threaded ends (5, 6) on the rods (2, 3) which fit inside a coupling sleeve (4) with matching threaded surfaces. The sleeve is made from at least two half-shells which have the threaded surfaces and are joined together by outer locking rings (13, 14). The outer surfaces of the half-shells combine to form cylindrical and conical sections, and the locking rings have matching inner surfaces to engage with these. The locking rings can also have outer projections which make them easier to grip and rotate. ADVANTAGE - Design simplicity, easily fitted without need for great precision, and reliable in operation.
