摘要 Single-stage process for re-refining used lubricant oils with a view to their reuse as top-grade lubricants. The process makes use of a chemical product and a clay which is activated by acid of the montmorillonite type in a reactor containing the said used oils at high temperatures for a specific period of time. The process dispenses with the need other stages, such as dehydration, thermal fractionation at high temperatures and pre-treatment with acid of the bottom products of the thermally fractionated or dehydrated oil, normally required in conventional systems. Consequently, the novel process requires a short processing time and provides high-grade lubricants with improved performance levels, which are superior to those of the conventional system. The removal of the sludges generated in the conventional stages of pre-treatment with acid also reduces the environmental problems of disposing of such sludges. The process also requires less capital investment and is easier and safer for plant personnel to carry out as it does not give rise to corrosion and does not require the handling of corrosive materials. The invention also relates to an additive for oil and to the re-refined oil obtained using the process of the invention.
