The support arrangement (24) has at least one cam fitment (26) fitting into at least one lengthwise guide (22) on the bottom end of the backrest or backrest support (19). The lengthwise guide has a top (27) and bottom (21a) stop piece. The bottom end stop is connected to a hydraulic cylinder (20). The restoring force of the resetting gas spring (8) acts hydraulically on the hydraulic cylinder piston (21), and also on a second hydraulic piston (12) in a second hydraulic cylinder (13) which is connected by a pipe (15) to the first hydraulic cylinder. USE/ADVANTAGE - The chair, esp. for office use, is aesthetically pleasing and functional, with the sitter's weight synchronising with the backrest movement.
