摘要 Coatings for medical devices which prevent the fouling of such devices when implanted in mammalian bodies are prepared from polymers comprising at least one poly(alkylene oxide) segment having at least 2 repeating -R1-O- groups, where R1 is an alkyl group containing at least 1 carbon atom, the polymer having two terminal photochemically or thermochemically reactive moieties. The average molecular weight of the polymer is at least 10,000. The polymer is used to coat the medical device and is then cured by exposure to ultraviolet light or by heat. The resultant polymeric coating is tenacious, lubricous, hydrophilic and resists fouling of the medical device. Biodegradable coatings can be prepared by incorporating amino acids and/or peptides into the polymer backbone. The polymer can be linear or nonlinear. Block co-polymers can be used, the block copolymer being prepared by utilizing precursors containing more than one type of alkyl group.
