PURPOSE:To quickly retrieve a desired picture by forming the reduced picture of collected picture data, and adding a collecting time. CONSTITUTION:A work station 1 is equipped with a reduced picture data forming means, collecting time data adding means, and retrieving means. That is, when the picture data are supplied through an input and output terminal 6 or 7, the work station 1 forms the reduced picture corresponding to the picture data, stores the collecting time, and supplies it to a monitor device 5. The left half part of the display screen of the monitor device 5 is used as the registration of the picture, the right half part is used as the retrieval of the picture, and the collecting time and the reduced picture are displayed at the left half area. Therefore, the necessary picture is selected and registered from among the displayed reduced picture and collecting time, and also, the entire registered reduced pictures can be seen in the right half area, and the desired picture can be retrieved from among them.
