PURPOSE:To improve sliding properties of a surface of a magnetic layer and durability by forming the magnetic layer containing magnetic powder and binder as main ingredients on a nonmagnetic flexible support and incorporating a special amount of special cane sugar fatty ester in the layer. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer containing magnetic powder and binder as main ingredients is formed on a nonmagnetic flexible support. The layer contains at least 3wt.% of cane sugar fatty ester represented by a formula I (where X, Y, Z are H or fatty acid residue COR, at least one is COR, R is 1-21C saturated alkyl group or 11-17C unsaturated alkyl group). Thus, the surface sliding properties of a magnetic recording medium is improved, but if its content is less than 3wt.%, no effect is exhibited. Thus, the fatty ester is contained in the layer thereby to improve sliding properties of the surface of the layer to reduce torque at the time of starting and feeding a head and the medium, thereby improving durability. |
