PURPOSE:To provide a super luminescent device which allows light output from the both edge planes, easy automatic power control and excellent manufacturing reproducibility. CONSTITUTION:A compound semiconductor current constriction type super luminescent diode is formed by sandwiching an activating layer 3 by top clad layers 4 and 7, which has larger band gap energy and smaller refraction factor than the activating layer 3, and a second conductivity type bottom clad layer 2. The diode is provided with a first current injecting stripe 13a, which has a non-exciting area on the rear edge plane and a second current strip 13b which has a non-exciting area on the front edge plane and the first and the second current injecting stripes 13a and 13b are arranged not on the same line in order to suppress emission light from the one strip to be conducted by the other tripe. |
