<p>A manual transmission shifter (10) for operating a pair of transmission control cables (16, 18) includes a shift lever (12), a base (14), and a cross (80) having first (74) and second (84, 86) axles defining first (X) and second (Y) intersecting orthogonal axes. The first axle (74) ends are pivotally mounted on the base (14) for pivotal movement. A shift lever bracket (90) mounts the shift lever (12) and has a pair of spaced arms (90a, 90b) which are pivotally mounted on the second axle (84, 86) ends to enable relative pivotal movement of the shift lever (12) about the second axis (Y). A cable control member (120) is attached at its lower end (130) to one of the control cables (16) and has a pair of spaced flanges (124, 126) at its upper end which are pivotally attached to the second axle (94, 96) outwardly of the shift lever bracket arms (90a, 90b) to enable pivotal movement of the cable control member (120) about the second axis (Y) independent of pivotal movement of the shift lever (12). A bellcrank (104) is pivotally mounted on the base (14) on a third axis (Z) that is coplanar with the orthogonal axes (X, Y). A control arm (94) mounted on the shift lever bracket (90) has a universal connection (96) to a shoe (98) slidably received in a slot (100) in one leg (102) of the bellcrank (104). This enables operation of the shift lever (12) and cross (80) about the second axis (Y) to operate the one cable (16) without moving the other cable (18).</p> |
