Pharmaceutical compositions which consist essentially of a vascular anticoagulant annexine, Ca2+, Zn2+, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier are disclosed. Also disclosed are processes for preparing such pharmaceutical compositions. Also disclosed are methods of preventing the coagulation of blood by mixing the blood with a vascular anticoagulant annexine, Ca2+ and Zn2+.
