Processing of an oxidation-sensitive metal is carried out in isolated surroundings (12). It consists of introducing the metal into these surroundings, producing a partial vacuum, melting the metal, introducing the melt into a mould, and letting it solidify. The surroundings (12), after they have been set under a partial vacuum, are flushed by means of an inert gas. The flushing process for which argon is used is carried out cyclically several times before melting of the metal takes place. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is used in the casting of oxidation-sensitive metals, esp titanium or its alloys (claimed). Since no high vacuum is required, simpler and less expensive equipment, in comparison with known methods, can be used.
