Proposed is a safety device fitted at the moving-handrail run-in point on an escalator, moving walkway, etc., in a fixed balustrade with an elastically deformable handrail run-in unit near the back of which is mounted a rod-shaped element which transmits any deformation of the run-in unit through connector elements to a switch at the other end of the rod.
