PURPOSE:To manufacture a solid activated carbon electrode whose filling density is uniform by a method wherein a hardening-type spherical phenol resin and a thermal hardening-type phenol resin are filled into a metal mold, they are heated while they are being pressurized, they are hardened and then heat-treated in an inert atmosphere and activated. CONSTITUTION:A thermal reaction-type spherical phenol resin 2 is mixed with a hardening-type spherical phenol resin 1, this mixture is filled into a metal mold, a pressure is applied by a hydraulic press provided with a hot plate, and a sheetlike object is obtained. The sheetlike object is heat-treated in a nitrogen atmosphere, it is then activated by steam, and a polarizing electrode for electric double layer capacitor use is obtained. Thereby, since not only the hardening-type spherical phenol resin but also the thermal reaction-type phenol resin which functions as a bonding agent is changed to activated carbon, it is possible to obtain an electrostatic capacity which is much larger as compared with prior art products. |
