A spindle head for tool turrets, with a housing (2), in which a spindle (1) is rotatably mounted, and also with an anti-rotation locking means which has a bush (7) arranged in a longitudinally displaceable but non-rotatable manner on the spindle (1). A locking element (8) is provided on the bush (7). In its effective position, in which the axial displacement range of the bush (7) is limited in the one direction in a positive-locking manner, the locking element (8) is in engagement with a locking element (12) of the housing (2) and can be disengaged from the locking element (12) of the housing (2) by axial displacement of the bush (7) against the force of a preloaded spring. Of the surfaces (9, 10, 12', 12'') interacting in the effective position of the locking elements (8, 12), at least that surface (9, 10) of the one locking element (8) is inclined relative to the axial direction to an extent eliminating self-locking.
