An improved, simple, and rapid method for extracting streptococcal antigens, preferably those of Group A Streptococci, from a sample is presented. The method comprises an improved micronitrous acid extraction procedure which eliminates the need for the separate addition of the nitrite and the neutralizing agent, by utilization of a unitized apparatus.
