<p>PURPOSE: To obtain an apparatus for detecting the thickness of a strip material in which the the thickness of a strip material having at least one metal coated surface can be detected effectively. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus performs detecting operation using a resonance circuit 8 being driven at a frequency other than the resonance frequency itself. The resonance circuit comprises a coil 14 having a toroidal core 3, provided with an opening or a gap 4 for passing an advancing strip material. A voltage sensor connected with a terminal of the coil is constituted to introduce two output operations being switched by each comparator, excited in response to a selected voltage value appearing at the terminal of the coil, based on the thickness of a passing strip 2 and the variation of inductive reactance determined by the electric and physical characteristics thereof.</p> |
