1,179,271. Reactive azo dyestuffs. UGINE KUHLMANN. 3 Feb., 1967 [3 Feb., 1966], No. 5264/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises reactive dyestuffs of the general formula wherein D is a mono or polyazo dyestuff residue, R is an alkyl group, e.g. methyl and n is a whole number, e.g. 1. The dyes may be sulphonated and/or metallized (Chromium and Copper complexes are described). They are prepared by condensing a dye D(NHR) n with 2-chlorobenzothiazole sulphochloride. The dyes D(NHR) n are prepared by diazotization and coupling, preferred diazo components being meta- or para-diamines one amine group being an -NHR or -NRCOCH 3 group, the latter being subsequently hydrolysed to -NHR. The dyes may be metallized before condensation with the sulphochloride. The dyes are used to dye -OH or > NH group containing fibres, e.g. cotton, wool, silk, viscose, leather and polyamides by the exhaustion, pad-batch, pad-roll or two-phase printing processes in presence of alkaline agents in nearly all shades.
