PURPOSE:To provide an EL element capable of providing a luminance higher than a conventionally proposed one, and having no limitation to materials to be used and a life longer than a conventional EL element by using a low applied voltage to positive electrode/positive hole transmitting layer/light emitting layer/ negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:An organic electroluminescent element 1 has a positive electrode 13, a positive hole transmitting layer 14, a light emitting layer 17 and a negative electrode 19, which are laminated in this order. The negative electrode contains a metal block part 19A containing a metal having a high work function and a metal block part 19B containing a metal having a low work function, and both the metal block part 19A of the metal having the high work function and the metal block part 19B of the metal having the low work function make contact with the light emitting layer 17. |
