Filter device (1) for filtering of a test sample (L') to be taken from the fluid (L) under test, and a means for its cleaning. To effect cleaning of the tubular filter body (10), the filter device (1) has equipment (14,18) for causing the forced mechanical oscillation of the filter body (10). The device (14) includes a diaphragm which transfers the oscillation to the filter body (10). A device (46) to remove the filtrate (44) from the fluid (L) is provided. To clean the filter body (10) preferably ultrasound vibrations are used at periodic or user adjustable time intervals. The test sample (L') is led off through a sideways opening (12). USE/ADVANTAGE - The filter is intended to provide a means of filtering a liquid medium. Also a method to provide for cleaning of the filter is supplied. Typically the filter might be used in nuclear power plants. The filter cleaning method provides reliable cleaning without the necessity to exchange a filter cartridge or to shut the process down.
