The compacting device has two lift cylinders (10) mounted one above the other in different planes across the compacting direction of the rubbish. Each lift cylinder forms an arm of an elbow lever system which is connected to the compactor plate (14) and is supported on the front of a fixed counter plate (15). Two rigid rods (11,13) form the two other arms of each elbow lever system. The loading device is mounted at the back of the counter plate (15). When swivelled down the loading/compacting device which is mounted at the rear of the refuse vehicle can be displaced in the compacting direction. A pre-compacting device consisting of two parallel rotatable rollers can be set above the compacting device. USE/ADVANTAGE - Easier exchange of the collecting containers for refuse vehicles. Reduced space required for compacting unit.
