PURPOSE:To provide a new compound having strong antimicrobial activity as an antimicrobial agent against especially Gram-positive bacteria including meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula I [A is CH, CX (X is a halogen) or N; R<1> is amino; R<2> is H, an alkyl, aryl, etc.; R<3> is a cycloalkyl, thienyl, etc.; R<4> is H, a halogen, alkyl, etc.; R<5> is carboxyl, etc.; (n) is 0 or 1], e.g. 7-[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-(Z)-methoxyiminoacetamido]-3{7-(3- cyclopropylthieno[2,3-b]pyridinio)methyl}-3-cephem-4-carboxylate. This compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (R<5a> has the same meaning as that of R<5>; X is a releasable group) with a compound of formula III, if necessary, in the presence of a base (e.g. an alkali hydroxide) in a solvent (e.g. water or THF) at -20 to +100 deg.C. |
