PURPOSE:To evenly adhere an organic peroxide to polyolefin particles while preventing denaturation of the peroxide and inhibiting static buildup to thereby obtain the subject polyolefin particles having a narrow particle size distribution by adding the organic peroxide in a solid state to the particles and subjecting the mixture to specific treatments. CONSTITUTION:An organic peroxide which is solid at room temp., preferably one which does not rapidly decompose at its melting point [e.g. alpha,alpha-bis(t- butylperoxy)diisopropylbenzene], is added to particles of a polyolefin (e.g. PP). The mixture is heated to a temp. not lower than the melting point but below the temps. at which the peroxide rapidly decomposes. Thus, the peroxide is melted. Polyolefin particles cooled to below room temp., desirably -20 deg.C to below 5 deg.C, preferably -20 deg.C to 2 deg.C, are added to the resulting mixture to rapidly cool it to a temp. below the melting point of the peroxide. |
