摘要 |
A continuous glass-fibre is wound to form a skein (1), connecting metal tubes (6) whose axes are parallel and at right angles to the insulator axis (12). The fibre may lie in simple (10) or figure-of-eight (11) loops. Optionally the loop may comprise a belt of plaited glass-fibre. The load-bearing assembly thus formed is placed in a mould and encapsulated under pressure with a silicone insulant to produce a smooth impermeable body (5), of rectangular cross-section, optionally with a series of projecting sheds (4). The end tubes (6), completed with annular facing plates, are left clear of insulant to provide shackle attachment points. USE/ADVANTAGE - In guyed structures supporting antennae operating at up to 650 kV and several GHz. Excellent mechanical and electrical characteristics.
