<p>PURPOSE:To detect a scene change automatically by comparing a count with a threshold level every time coding of one frame is finished so as to discriminate the scene change in a current frame. CONSTITUTION:An inter-frame prediction error (x) outputted from an inverse DCT section 6 in the process of a picture signal coding is inputted to a multiplier 12, in which prescribed arithmetic operation is implemented. Then the energy of a prediction error signal is fed to a counter section 13, where the accumulation equivalent to one frame is counted. The count is fed to a comparator section 14, in which the count is compared with a predetermined threshold level for each frame. When the count of the counter section 13 is larger than the threshold level as the result of comparison, the comparator section 14 outputs a scene change detection signal representing it that the current frame is subject to scene change.</p> |
