PURPOSE:To provide a method for efficiently producing the fluorinated phthalonitrile derivative in a high yield and in a good purity. CONSTITUTION:3,4,5,6-Tetrafluorophthanonitrile is reacted with a nucleophilic substituent of formula I (X is O, S; Y is O, S, group of formula II, group of formula II), e.g. tetrafluorohydroquinone, in the presence of a basic substance in an organic solvent in a ratio of the nitrile the quinone of >=8:1, preferably 15-30:1, at -5 to 150 deg.C, preferably 40-100 deg.C, to produce a compound of formula IV, e.g. 1,4-bis(3,4-dicyano-2,5,6-trifluorophenoxy)tetrafluorobenzene. The fluorinated phthalonitrile derivative is useful as an intermediate raw material for optical materials, wiring board materials, photosensitive materials, liquid crystal materials, especially as an intermediate for the optical materials and the wiring board materials. |
