PURPOSE: To enable to accurately orient and focus the direction of reception beam by constituting a receiver, which generates reception beams through sampling echo signals generated by an ultrasonic wave converter arrangement, to give delay to the echo signals only by a value obtained by a specific formula. CONSTITUTION: This device for converting an ultrasonic echo to an image is equipped with an ultrasonic wave converter arrangement 11, which has one set of array elements 12 to generate pulses of ultrasonic energy in a transmitting mode and in a receiving mode to generate echo signals responding to ultrasonic wave energy. The device, in the transmitting mode, generates directed transmitting beam responding to the other signals applied by a transmitter 13 and in the receiving mode, generates receiving beam in a receiver 14 through sampling the echo signals generated by the array elements 12. This receiver 14 has in the array elements 12 a discrete channel, which works to give delay to an echo signal sample by calculating a value D according to the formula; D= nA-npB-E<2> +p<2> . |
