PURPOSE:To reduce inner pressure of gas generated in chemical conversion, and reduce the number of times of charge/discharge cycles for initial activation by applying a short-circuitting process to an assembled sealed battery, and leaving it as it is short-circuitted till a chemical conversion process is started. CONSTITUTION:An electrode plate group obtained by laminating and winding a positive electrode plate of nickel, and a negative electrode plate manufactured by using hydrogen storage alloy comprising desired alloy elements and composition hydrogen through a nylon separator is contained in a cylindrical metal container, electrolyte is injected to it, and it is sealed to be gas-tight to assemble a sealed battery. Immediately after completion of assembling, a positive electrode terminal at a battery cover and a negative electrode terminal of the container are connected to each other through a lead wire for short-circuitting, so the positive electrode is short-circuitted with the negative electrode. For a number of thus assembled sealed batteries which are processed to be short- circuitted, they are left as they are short-circuitted for a specified time, the lead wires for short-circuitting are then removed, and a chemical conversion process by first charging is applied immediately. |
