<p>The subject of the present invention is a process for the para-hydroxyalkylation of hydroxylated aromatic compounds. The invention is directed at a process for the preparation of optionally substituted p-hydroxymandelic compounds and more particularly the preparation of p-hydroxymandelic acid and of 3-methoxy-p-hydroxymandelic acid. The subject of the invention is a process for the para-hydroxyalkylation of a hydroxylated aromatic compound in which the position para to the hydroxyl group is free, characterised in that the said compound is condensed with a compound carrying a carbonyl group, in the presence of a quaternary ammonium hydroxide.</p> |
