A road vehicle system has an aerial mounted externally on the bodywork for the transmission and reception of radio telephone signals. The electromagnetic emissions are of 10 to 100 W power level and are of megaHertz frequencies. Protection of vehicle occupants against these emissions is provided by provision of shielding in the regions of the body where windows are located.
