PURPOSE:To prevent overcurrent caused by imperfect contact between an electrode of a plate cylinder and that of an ink holding roll, and to provide high quality recording without off-shading during color picture recording in which an ink is used of which adhesion varies corresponding to the voltages being applied to it. CONSTITUTION:Voltage is applied after the contact between a plate cylinder 3 and an ink holding roll 1 is detected. In addition, rotation of the plate cylinder 3 is so controlled that the time required for detecting the head of each plate since the position of the recording medium 7 which is being conveyed has been detected should be uniform per each color picture recording unit.
