Compounds of formula (1) are described wherein Y represents a halogen atom or a group -OR1 where R1 represents an optionally substituted alkyl group; R2 represents an optionally substituted cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl or polycycloalkyl group; Z represents -N(R3)CO- or -CONE(R3) represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group; R4 represents an aryl or heteroaryl group; X represents -O-, -S-, -CH¿2?- or -N(R?5¿)-, where R5 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; n is zero or an integer or value 1, 2 or 3; and the salts, solvates and hydrates thereof. The compounds are selective phosphodiesterase IV inhibitors and are useful for the prophylaxis or treatment of inflammatory diseases.
