A coin operated machine has an entry slot that directs the coins through a station (10) where any coin (6b) connected to a thread (30) can be handled. The coin is directed in such a way that the thread loops over a lever (14). At the point the coin is retained against a controlled stop (9a) and the thread engages a heating wire (11). The lever is displaced to operate a limit switch (13) and this connects the heating wire to an electrical power supply (Uo). The heating effect cuts the thread and the coin is allowed to fall into the magazine. USE/ADVANTAGE - Prevents repeated use by coin on end of thread.
