PURPOSE:To provide a light source for an optical printer which can perform high quality printing in high density by using a light emitting diode array. CONSTITUTION:In a light source for an optical printer composed of a light emitting diode array formed of separated each layer, with a plurality of electrically spatially separating grooves 19 provided at equal intervals, of an end face light emitting type light emitting diode wherein output of light is obtained from its laminate end face, which is composed of a laminate structure containing at least a light emission layer of the light emitting diode formed on a semiconductor substrate 11 and electrodes 24, 25 for making the light emission layer 14 emit light, a light emitting end face 30 of each light emitting diode 27 is provided at a specific angle from a normal direction of the semiconductor substrate 11. Thereby, high quality high resolution which is high in both of a size of a dot and uniformity of printing density in high density like at least 600dpi, can be embodied. |
