Nucleic acid sequences of GAG and ENV genes

New nucleotide sequences (I) from the genomic RNA of feline immune deficiency virus (FIDU) comprises at least a fragment of a gene having hypervariable regions, i.e. the genes encoding the env or gag proteins of the WO strain. The specification includes the sequences of the env gene (2568 bases; 854 aminoacids) and the gag gene (1350 bases; 450 aminoacids). Also new are (1) transcription products corresponding to these 2 sequences; (2) fragments (or combinations of them) of (I) which encode a peptide (or fragment) having at least one epitope able to induce an immune response; (3) nucleotide probes which are labelled (I) or its fragments; (4) primer pairs for synthesis of cDNA or RNA of the WO strain, consisting of sequences homologous or complementary to (I); (5) peptides (or their fragments or combinations) encoded by (I) and (b) vectors contg. (I).
