The invention relates to a container, in particular for waste material, which is provided with a base surface and a substantially continuous upright wall which is arranged on the base surface and has a number of wall parts, at least one of which is releasably connected to adjoining parts of the container. The removable wall part may be coated with a protective layer of a colour which differs from that of the other wall parts. The invention also relates to a method for producing a container of this nature by successively forming a base surface, attaching a number of uprights and/or wall parts to the base surface by welding, electrodeposition of a protective layer of the structure formed in this way by immersing it in a bath, and releasably attaching at least one missing, pretreated wall part.
